Assalam alei kum

I have heard from people that if one is have Iftari they should be inviting at least 60 people.
Is this part of our religion or a tradition?
I have been going through Sahih Bukhari but have not been able to find anything specific.  Please advise if I have missed it or otherwise.

Assalamu alaikum

No, if we are inviting people for Iftar, we DO NOT have to invite 60 people at least.  In fact we can invite as few or many as we like.

May be what you heard was someone referring to or mixing up with the 60 poor people that one needs to feed as a kaffarah udhmaa for expiation for breaking the fast in Ramadan due to sexual intercourse.  Otherwise, as for Iftar, there is not requirement of 60 people.

Allah bless you in your reading of Sahih Bukhari and increase you in beneficial knowledge, acting on it and inviting others to it with patience.

Wassalamualaikum
