Assalamu alaiqum wa rahamatullah,

I am not yet sound in Tajweed (but learning), is it a sin for me to recite the holy Quran in Ramadan and make mistakes in recitation? Should I not recite until I am good at it?

May Almighty Allah give us all hidayat to learn the holy Quran this Ramadan! Ameen.
Jazakullah Khair.

Wa alaikumusalaam wa rahmatullahi wa brakatuh

Ameen!!

If someone does not know tajweed, they should as you are doing, try to learn tajweed, i.e. recite Quran with proper pronounciation of the alphabet, prolonging appropriately etc.

In the mean time, while learning, it is not wrong for the person to try to recite Quran in Salaat taraweeh and do one's best.  Remember for trying even if hard and make mistakes, still get reward twice, one for reciting, one for trying, as the Prophet said.  So, it is very good you trying to learn tajweed, i.e. proper recitation of Quran and that is all Allah requires from you to do your best.  I pray Allah gives you good tajweed soon!

However, if a person cannot yet read properly with tajweed to the extent that they have not yet learnt how to pronounce surah fatiha properly with tajweed, then such a person should not lead people in congregation prayer if there is someone else who can recite fatihah with tajweed.  If there are none, then the best of the reciters to any extent should lead in congregation.

Assalamu alaikum

Ameeen!  I pray Allah rewards them all and especially the contributors by writing questions or by organising the forums!

By the way, I have not been able to answer questions for the last three days or so due to an operation I had to have in the hospital ... just finished it yesterday, so inshalah I'll try to get back to the answers asap with Allah's permission and help!
