assalaamo aleikom,

as we are now collecting sadaqat el-fitr to be sent to Indonesia, there are questions from many friends here:
1. how much money is for sadaqat el-fitr? one masjid here said it's about AUD 10,-, but as it will go to indonesia, is it still acceptable to give say AUD 5,- (this will be more than enough to feed the poor in Indonesia for one day)?

2. if one person here wants to give AUD 10,-, can the money go to more than one poor person in Indonesia? or it has to be given only to one poor person?

look forward to your answer.

Wa alaikumusalaam

Even for giving saqatul fitr in Australia we do not need $10 per person.  If we are giving to someone here in Australia, we need to give one Saa i.e. four lots of cupped hands of rice or wheat etc of staple food here.  From my understanding of current prices in Australia that will be about $3 or less per person.

As for distributing in Indonesia it will be the same or less.

Some brothers I know are collecting Zakatul Fitr for Indonesian poor Muslims and they are collecting $3 which I think is reasonable.

If people working on it wanted their own money (which is permissible), then that would need to be calculated separately in addition to the $3.  If they are not taking their own effort's wages, then $3 is sufficient.

If someone did give you $10 instead of say $3, then you can give the extra money in charity to other people.
